South London Tamil Welfare Group is a registered charity, working for the Tamil Community from 1985. We support Tamil refugees by providing Advice and Services relating to their Immigration, Welfare benefits, housing, education, employment and training needs. We are based in Colliers Wood, and work across South London Boroughs of Merton, Wandsworth, Croydon and Kingston. Over the years, we have built up strong partnerships with Funding bodies, Supporters and main stakeholders. Our organisation is managed by a board of trustees and managers, and our services are delivered by a team of committed and trained staff and volunteers.

Our Vision is to enhance the quality of life of the Tamil community, and to see that they all live with dignity and honour in the United Kingdom.

Our Objectives are to provide advise and information services, advancement of education and provision of facilities for recreation.

Our strategic aims:

·        To ensure our clients find our services both useful and rewarding

·        To respect the individual needs of our clients and provide suitable opportunities wherever required

·        To work closely with our clients to ensure they are continually shown a high level of service, while striving to meet their needs

·        To maximize our service provisons through partnerships with other organisations.

SLTWG launches a new Project

“Tamils into Employment and Training”

 

 

The official launch of the new project took place on Wednesday 19th September 2007 at our new Employment training centre in Mitcham, Surrey (few minutes walk from Mitcham Cricket Green).

 

Following the Welcoming speeches, a traditional lighting of the lamps and warming of the milk ceremonies took place, participated by Directors, Staff, Beneficiaries, LDA representatives  and staff from HTEC.

 

This Employment project will run for 3 years, and will give employment support to a total of 375 beneficiaries. In addition it will also fund Skills for life (ESOL) training at Entry levels 1, 2 & 3 for 90 people. The New training centre has facilities for IT support and Pre-ESOL support.  Places ate strictly limited for each year, and enrolled people are expected to give full commitment to the training programme.
